Kua Whiti te Rā draws from the first light that crests over Te Tairāwhiti, where whenua
meets moana in a moment of renewal. This work evokes the vitality of a new dawn
through the rhythmic movement of vibrant kōwhaiwhai, unfurling like solar threads
across the landscape. Here, light is not simply illumination—it is connection. The
artwork conveys a sense of harmony between the land, sky, water, and people. It also
speaks to the emotion a sunrise gives us: the quiet lift of optimism, the warmth of
energy returning, the gentle call to begin again.
